We really liked the original Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, but the poor resolution was detrimental to all and slippery hull made it difficult to hold and keep it clean. And back then it was not shiny plastic trèsclasse either. The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in 2014 has improved all that bothered us in the previous edition and has become one of our favorite Android tablets 10 inches. All this has a price against the Note 10.1 in 2014 cost about 50 euros more than the previous model.
If you want to compare the prices of different shops that offer the Galaxy Note 10.1 in 2014, we offer a look at this table:
Some notable improvements over the previous version
Among the nice improvements include new shell faux leather (like the Galaxy Note 3) which is available in white or black, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, infrared sensor (IR Blaster) and Samsung WatchOn to control the TV distance, 2MP front camera and 8MP rear camera with LED flash and HDR.
The usual overlay Samsung Touchwiz, is part and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. You will also find the army of software which includes Samsung Multi Window, Air View, S Voice, KNOX security, S Translator, S Note and application store, music and videos from Samsung.
All standard Google applications are also there like Gmail, Chrome and old webkit browser, Maps, Google Play Store, Google Play Apps and Photo Gallery. Although the tablet uses Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, Samsung has removed the multi-user support. If you intend to create a user account for your child or your guests, you unfortunately can not do it. Maybe an update will do that.
Design and Ergonomics
We have many accused Samsung of using too shiny plastic and faux finishes aluminum (this gives the impression that it is aluminum, but it is not). There is always a healthy dose of fake aluminum (poorly imitated) in the corners, but the rest is much improved. As with the Android smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note 3 , Samsung has chosen a back cover imitation leather (black or white), complemented by leather corners also imitation. this may sound like bad taste, but the result is pleasant, especially in black.
The tablet has a more slippery surface and is no longer in love with fingerprints unlike the first version of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The design is actually managed. Maybe not as pleasant and modern than the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, but Samsung tablet is comfortable to hold and carry. Since the back is made of injection molded plastic, it will not harm themselves like real leather.
The buttons are well laid out with micro USB 2.0 port (not 3.0 as the Galaxy Note 3) below, the volume buttons and plug top and a microSD card slot Compatible with SDXC cards under a hatch on side. The S Pen stylus is in a location (rather well done) on the right side so you do not lose it.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 in 2014 looks much more compact, and unlike some tablets 10 inches, it can stand for long periods without losing comfort. It is really compact and easy to pick up, and the speakers have been strategically placed on the sides. They are practically on top of the tablet (in landscape mode), so your hands do not block.
Screen
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in 2014 has a beautiful display of 2560 x 1600 pixels for both bright and colorful with good contrast. This is not a Super AMOLED screen (they are not available at this resolution for such a large screen), so the colors are more natural. The colors are nice and vibrant than the Nexus 10 (also manufactured by Samsung), and the screen is a serious competitor to that of the Nexus 7 2013. This is one of the best screen tablets available in the market in terms of color, brightness and contrast. It fits perfectly the road in front of the Retina display of the iPad.
Samsung offers a few options to adjust colors, from which you can choose the automatic mode (this mode detects if you watch a video, read a book or watch photos and adjusts the colors accordingly). There is a play mode that softens the screen to give it a pink color that some consider more restful to the eyes. And if you prefer well-whites, you can get when the brightness is greater than 70%. As usual with tablets and smartphones from Samsung , the brightness setting in automatic mode is incredibly low, so if I were you, I règlerais brightness manually.
S Pen: Baby by artists and those who take notes
It would not be a Galaxy Note if it was not with an S Pen, the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 in 2014 therefore has a S Pen using Wacom technology. It is possible to use the other Galaxy Note stylus and tablet also works with Wacom pens for Tablet PC.
The S Pen is an accurate digital pen, not to be confused with some large capacitive stylus and unspecified. It supports 1000 levels of sensitivity that makes writing much more natural and makes it excellent for drawing and painting. Samsung includes its S Note application has evolved. This allows you to take notes by hand, automatically recognizes the formulas and you can scribble.
If you are an artist and wish to draw and paint more seriously, we recommend the Autodesk Sketchbook Pro and Painter Infinite applications. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has no competition in the Android universe, if you want a digital pen, you must choose the rating. Lenovo and HTC have tried the digital pen using the N-Trig competing technology, but these models are not sold for a long time. Windows 8 tablets are the only alternative if you want an N-Trig digitizer pen.
Performance and power
As always, the processor and graphics chip are becoming faster as on virtually every new product from Samsung. Although we have not found the Galaxy Note 10.1 slow moose, here we have a quad-core Exynos 5420 Octa, clocked at 1.9GHz, faster, and a graphics chip MALI T-628. Despite the name "Octa", the processor does not use 8 cores at once. Instead, it uses quad-core 1.9GHz ARM quad-core 1.3GHz A15 and A7.
The fastest cores are used for the most demanding tasks, while the A7 four cores is used for tasks requiring fewer resources. The operation is similar to the architecture of the companion Tegra 3 and Tegra 4. Note that the 4G LTE version will use the quad-core Snapdragon 800, which is comparable in terms of performance or even slightly higher.
Living memory and internal storage
When you first start, an update intended to remove some bugs and improve the performance has been made. Apparently, it worked well because the tablet has proved responsive, without slowdowns usually generated by the Touchwiz overlay, delays that were present on some previous Samsung Galaxy products. The fact that the Galaxy Note 10.1 Edition 2014 has 3 GB of RAM (like the Galaxy Note 3) certainly helps.
Currently, smartphones and high-end Android tablets have 2 GB of RAM, and 1GB was the norm there less than a year, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in 2014 so more than enough RAM to enable to use all Samsung and other intensive applications (or very intensive) software.
The Galaxy Note 10.1 in 2014 is available in 16 and 32GB, and has a microSD slot SDXC if you ever need to expand the storage capacity. Although Android 4.x has removed the ability to install applications on the SD card, Samsung modified the operating system to provide this functionality.
Most applications do not take up so much room that much, but games like NOVA advanced Bard's Tale 3 and take 2 or 3 GB easily. It is at this point that you may be tempted to put applications on the microSD card. The tablet also supports USB host, so you can use USB keyboards, mice, joysticks jeus and USB (NTFS is not supported hard drives unless you rootez your device and add support for this system file). You will need a micro USB to USB OTG adapter to use this feature.
Camera
The 8MP camera with LED flash and HDR is better than average for a tablet. It is equivalent to that of a high-end smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy S3, so it will not compete with the Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, LG G2 or iPhone 5s. Nevertheless, the camera takes pictures pleasant and 1080p videos quite correct, but the photos are taken in bright outdoor medium and the noise is clearly visible in low light conditions.
Overall, the camera is working properly, if you do not mind waving a 10-inch tablet to take pictures and capture videos. As with other products in the Samsung Galaxy range, you can use the front and rear cameras simultaneously.
The front camera of 2MP is above average, and is equivalent to that of the best Android smartphones on the market. Video chats are relatively well filmed and little pixelated.
Here are some pictures that were taken with the 8 MP camera of the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 our colleague GSMArena :
Battery
Samsung has increased the capacity of the battery from 7,000 mAh for the first generation Galaxy Note 10.1 to 8,220 mAh, but the higher resolution and more powerful processor is felt, therefore the autonomy does not improve. On average, we achieved between 7.5 and 8.5 hours of use, alternating web browsing, 2 hours of HD streaming on YouTube, responding to e-mails, using social networks and on travailllant Word documents with the included Polaris Office software 5.
The battery takes hours to load, like that of the Nexus 10 tablet built by Samsung, so get ready to charge at night when it is almost empty.
Competition
Among Android tablets, the Google Nexus 10 has an identical resolution and a less powerful Exynos processor, but still enough to be a competitive match for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in 2014. It is slightly cheaper and offers a pure Android experience for those who hate overlays manufacturers such as Touchwiz. However, you lose the S Pen, the microSD slot and successfully operate the USB host mass storage and more work on the Nexus 10.
If you want to know the price of the Nexus 10, we invite you to take a look at the table below:
Sony Tablet Tablet Xperia Z is also a competitor and can boast of being thinner. It also has the USB host and a microSD port and the IR Blaster Infrared technology and AV Remote. The screen resolution is lower with 1920 x 1200, but it is still a full HD high quality. The choice depends on your preference in terms of brand, taste in user interface terms (Sony or Touchwiz interface) and the need or not S pen.
Here are the best stores that offer the Sony Xperia Z Tablet best price:
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a tablet Edition 2014 you must decide whether you want a tablet equipped with Android mobile operating system rather than Windows tablet. In fact it is one of the best Android tablet, but you pay the price because it is also more expensive. In return, you will have a beautiful display of 2560 x 1600 with beautiful colors and perfect clarity (yes, I said ... perfect), the S Pen for drawing and writing, the excellent Multi Window for Samsung multitasking, good support S Pen by non Samsung applications, a fast processor, a storage that you can expand and USB host. The rear camera takes decent pictures and videos and has nice features like LED flash and HDR.
